You spend months planning your wedding—the venue, the flowers, the guest list. But how much time have you devoted to planning your marriage? The couples who thrive long after the honeymoon fades, are the ones who invested in their relationship before that ceremony on their big day.
Prior to marriage, many couples experience differences they would rather sweep under the rug. They may have conflicting opinions about finance, religion, intimacy or children; trust issues or not getting along with future in-laws. But at this stage they are so eager to take the relationship to the next level—marriage—they’re afraid to rock the boat and hope that tying the knot will solidify the relationship.
Premarital counseling in Bakersfield is about equipping you and your partner with the communication tools, shared understanding, and mutual expectations that make a strong foundation. Think of it as the most important preparation you can make—far more valuable than picking the perfect centerpiece.
Every couple is unique, and sessions are tailored to your specific needs and goals. Most premarital programs address the following core areas:
Explore how each of you experiences and expresses love, what emotional intimacy looks like to each of you, and how to keep your connection strong through life’s seasons.

Coaching focuses on the skills and tools you need now, and in the years to come—not on rehashing the past. Sessions are private, personalized, and structured around your specific relationship needs. You leave each session with something concrete to practice.
Start with a phone consultation with our Helpline Specialist. You’ll discuss your relationship, your goals, any issues, and what you hope to accomplish before the wedding. Our Helpline Specialist will evaluate whether we may be able to help you. If so, she’ll schedule you and your partner for an hour-long, in-person Introductory Consultation with our marriage coach to determine if we’re a good fit for each other. (Couples who are located far from our Bakersfield office may have a virtual consultation.)
The goal is to ensure that you feel comfortable with us and that we feel we can help you.
We don’t accept people we believe we can’t help, as doing so results in a waste of time and money. There is nominal fee of $50 for the Introductory Consultation.
Most couples complete 6–12 sessions, though some prefer our smallest package (4 sessions) or extended support that includes post-wedding check-ins. Sessions are available in person at our Bakersfield office or online.
The tools and frameworks you learn during premarital coaching don’t expire after the honeymoon. You’ll have language, habits, and strategies that serve your marriage for years—and a strong foundation to return to when things get hard.
For current session rates and packages, visit our Rates page or ask during your free phone consultation. We believe quality premarital preparation is one of the most important investments a couple can make.

For couples searching for premarital counseling near me in the Bakersfield area, Daphna offers something rare: an experienced coach who combines a professional approach with genuine warmth.
“Daphna helped myself and my loved one through a difficult course in our relationships. She did a very good job not making things feel so one-sided. I felt like she was listening and trying to understand every emotion being expressed. One of the many things I believe helped our relationship was Daphna giving us homework to take care of when sessions were finished.”
“Daphna gave us the tools we needed to improve our communication and avoid the huge arguments we were frequently having. She also helped us to formulate a plan to reach our common goals and that has really added to the excitement and happiness of our relationship. ”
“Daphna taught us how to listen, communicate and accept each other’s thoughts and differences. She taught us about timing. That was one of our biggest problems. After our time with her, Nick and I feel confident in moving forward in life together. We are closer and communicate better when issues arise. We are now getting married and are happier than ever.”
Premarital coaching is a proactive, skills-based process that prepares engaged couples for married life. Rather than waiting for problems to arise, you and your partner learn practical tools for communication, conflict resolution, financial alignment, intimacy and more—before you walk down the aisle. It differs from therapy in that it focuses on building future skills rather than processing past issues.
Most couples complete premarital coaching in 6–12 sessions, depending on the topics you want to cover and how much depth you’d like to explore. Some couples prefer a brief, 4-session package; others benefit from a longer program that includes follow-up sessions after the wedding. During your in-person (or virtual, if you’re remote) consultation, your coach will recommend a plan tailored to your timeline and goals.
